Job Summary

The Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the operations of all kitchen and hospitality services, including meal preparation, serving and inventory control. They will effectively supervise, as required, the daily activities of volunteers assigned to assist in the kitchen and pantry.

Responsible for:

  • Assisting in and prepping food for all YESS facilities and functions.
  • Supporting the kitchen team in completing all kitchen related duties.
  • Maintain an inventory of all food and kitchen supply.
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures related to food handling and personal hygiene.
  • Assist in the preparation of food for special events, and provide necessary services such as serving, setting up and clearing, agency functions and third party events.
  • Ensure kitchen, dining area and equipment meet public health standards.
  • Provide professional level of service to donors.
  • Promote the Agency in a positive manner to the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a fast paced kitchen environment.
  • Food Safety Certificate (at least 1st year culinary school).
  • High School Diploma.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • First Aid training will be an asset.

Other Requirements: 

  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Must possess Criminal Record (CRIM) and Child and Youth Intervention (CYIM) checks that are no more than six (6) months old.
  • Proof of vehicle insurance (at least $ 1 million third party liability).
  • Able to lift 40-50 lbs and go upstairs (frequently) .
  • Ability to be on the move and stand for long periods.
  • Knowledge of Canada Food guidelines in meal planning and preparation of food.
