We are currently looking for Isolation Support Workers to join our team at YESS!

 

Who we are: Youth Empowerment & Support Services (YESS) is a not-for-profit agency working with youth facing difficult realities. The successful candidates would be able to provide coverage for our regular staff or work alongside, as required, during days, evenings, overnights and weekends. Shifts could be a combination of 'overnight-awake' and 'sleep'. It is a requirement that Relief/Casual staff work at least 24-hour shift per pay period (every 2 weeks).

Isolation activation shifts – overnight awake, daytime and evening support
*Shifts scheduled within 48 hours of isolation space closure will be honored in a different program; shifts outside of 48hrs will be canceled or placed on hold


Reporting to: Manager of Supportive Housing and Services

 

Additional Hours: As a casual on-call, shifts will be varied depending on activation of isolation space. When activated, shifts will be moved from Shelter to Graham’s Place. When de-activated, cancelled shifts will be offered in Shelter at staff and manager discretion.

 

Job Purpose: The purpose of this job will be to provide support to individuals staying at the Graham’s Place Isolation space. The program serves youth (ages 15-21) experiencing homelessness who are needing to isolate due to suspected COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed to known positive cases. As a relief staff, you will be called upon to fill the isolation shifts at Graham’s Place to provide support for youth who are needing to isolate, when needed.


Job Summary

 

  • Providing a safe, clean and secure environment for the youth ages 15-24
  • Follow AHS and YESS isolation policies while working in the isolation space
  • Support individuals with basic needs to stay in isolation – this includes site monitoring, meal assistance, etc.
  • Managing youth access to services: meals, showers, laundry, donations, etc.
  • Engage and support youth to understand isolation needs and expectations
  • Maintain a healthy environment by learning and adhering to isolation techniques
  • Role modeling appropriate behaviors
  • Maintaining records and entering information into a database and performing clerical duties
  • Housekeeping and sanitizing duties are required
  • Other duties as required


Qualifications

 

  • Degree or Diploma in Child & Youth Care or related Human Services field
  • A minimum one-year experience in Youth Work or Social Work
  • Experience working in a shelters or drop-in centers will be considered an asset
  • CYCAA Child and Youth Care certification will be considered an asset
  • Must have valid Standard First Aid and Non-Violence Crisis Intervention training 



Other Requirements


  • A clean criminal record check obtained less than six months ago
  • A clean child Intervention Record check obtained less than six months ago
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
  • Knowledgeable and respectful of values, beliefs and practices of Indigenous peoples and other cultural and diverse groups
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to work in a highly stressful and ever-changing environment
  • Must have excellent boundaries
  • Mental resiliency is key Inner-city healing through health care
  • Computer literacy an asset
  • Knows how to problem-solve with people who face emotional and psychological challenges
  • Ability to learn new skills with a great attention to detail
  • Understands the challenges and stresses facing people who live in poverty
  • Treat people with respect and in a sensitive manner
  • Possessing Harm Reduction principles is a must
  • Able to handle multiple demands at the same time; exceptionally well organized
  • Can de-escalate tense inter-personal and group situations
  • Listens well, has a calm demeanor and knows how to solve practical problems
  • Possess robust mental health and a commitment to self-care
