We are currently looking for Youth Workers (Shelters) to join our team at YESS!


Who we are: Youth Empowerment & Support Services (YESS) is a not-for-profit agency working with youth facing difficult realities. We provide overnight, residential and day programming to youth who access our services. The successful candidates would be able to provide coverage for our regular staff or work alongside, as required, for all our shelter programs.


Programs & Shifts Available


Nexus 24/7 Emergency Shelter

Full-time - Monday's 9am to 9pm, Friday, Saturday and Sunday's 9am to 6pm

Full-time - Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday & Alternating Saturday's - 9am to 6pm (possibility for extra shifts)

*Casual/Relief - Daytime, Weekend and Overnight shift availability 


Hostel 24/7 Isolation Program

Full-time - Monday to Friday, 3pm to 11:30pm


Hostel 24/7 Cohort Living

Full-time - Monday to Friday, 11pm to 7:30am 

Full-time - Monday to Friday, 3pm to 11:30pm

Part-time - Saturday and Sunday, 7pm to 7am 

Part-time - Saturday and Sunday, 7am to 7pm 

*Casual/Relief - Weekend and Overnight shift availability required


All positions may be on a contract with the end date of March 31, 2022.

*It is a requirement that Casual/Relief staff work at least 24-hour shift per pay period (every 2 weeks); however, possibility for consistent shifts are available. 


Program On-boarding consists of a virtual orientation to be conducted on a schedule Monday, shadow shifts are scheduled for 5 hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday and a full day of training is to be completed on the Friday. A final shadow shift will be scheduled the following week and new hires will be allowed to assume regular scheduled shifts or pick up shifts after all on-boarding has been completed. On-boarding must be completed within two (2) weeks of the hire date.

Job Summary


  • Providing a safe, clean and secure environment for the youth ages 15-24
  • Building healthy relationships with youth 
  • Assisting with intakes and diversion
  • Housekeeping duties are required
  • Managing youth access to services: meals, showers, laundry, donations, etc.
  • Working with youth to achieve their goals and transition out of homelessness
  • Role modeling appropriate behaviors
  • Maintaining records and entering information into a database and performing clerical duties
  • Other duties as required


Qualifications


  • Degree or Diploma in Child & Youth Care or related Human Services field
  • A minimum one-year experience in Youth Work or Social Work
  • Experience working in a shelters or drop-in centers will be considered an asset
  • CYCAA Child and Youth Care certification will be considered an asset

 

Other Requirements


  • A criminal record check obtained less than six months ago
  • Child Intervention Record check obtained less than six months ago
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
  • Knowledgeable and respectful of values, beliefs and practices of Aboriginal and other cultural and diverse groups
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
